Introduction

The dictionary defines captivity as the condition of being imprisoned or confined. When a person is in captivity, they need external help to be free. Joseph was in captivity; it took an external force (Pharaoh) to bring him out.

Often, when you are under the force of captivity, all human means to get out only seem to pull you deeper in. If you rely solely on connections, friends, or money, these things will fail because what keeps a man in captivity is often a spiritual force that is beyond physical solutions. But I bring you good news: The Lord God shall deliver you by His mercy

I. WHAT IT MEANS TO BE UNDER CAPTIVITY

1.  Prayerlessness: The enemy attacks your communication with God. An example is the disciples in Matthew26:40-41. If you cannot pray or you fall asleep the moment you start, therefore of captivity is at work.

2. Loss of Personal Authority: You are no longer in charge of your decisions. An example is Goliath dictating terms to Israel (1 Sam 17:8-9). You find yourself negotiating with problems rather than commanding them.

3. Spiritual Dullness and Confusion: Captivity creates a "spiritual fog" where you lose your sense of direction. You know you have potential, but it feels locked away and out of reach.

4. The "Circular Journey" (Stagnancy): This is laboring without progress. Like the Israelites in the wilderness, you are moving but not advancing; returning to the same old debts, sins, or failures just as you think you’ve escaped.

5. Emotional Torment: Captivity is an internal prison. It is the feeling of being lonely in a crowd or experiencing unexplained sorrow, heavy-heartedness, and regret.

6. Blocked Harvest: This is when resources dry up unexpectedly. It is the force that says, "You shall see the land of promise, but you shall not enter it."

II. HOW TO GET OUT FROM CAPTIVITY

1. Sincere Repentance: Deal with the "legal ground." Confess every known sin and surrender your life afresh to Jesus (1 John 1:9).

2. Destroy the Foundations: Every prison has a foundation. Use the Blood of Jesus to break ancestral covenants and family idols that have a claim on your life (Col2:14).

3. Engage the Power of Praise: Captivity cannot withstand the atmosphere of joy. Like Pauland Silas, praise the Lord until the foundations of your prison shake (Acts16:25-26).

4. Persistent Prayer: Some captivities are stubborn. You must be willing to "watch and pray" beyond usual limits until your angel of deliverance appears (Acts12:5).

5. Renew Your Mind: Replace a "captive's mentality" with a "victor's mentality." When you know the Truth, the Truth will set you free (John8:32).

6. Use Your Authority: Submit to God and resist the devil. Command the "strongman" to let you go! (James 4:7).
